MedPAC Announces the Release of the Updated 2023 Medicare Payment Basics
The Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) is an independent congressional agency comprised of seventeen members established to advise the U.S. Congress on issues affecting the Medicare program, including payments, access to care and quality of care. Part of this advisement is providing “clear and accessible” information regarding how Medicare works.
The Medicare Payment Basics are a series of documents to explain how Medicare’s payment systems function. There are 20 major payment system basics in all, and each document contains a diagram that visually illustrates how each payment system calculates providers’ payment. This series is updated annually in the fall. The 2023 version is now available.
