COVID National Emergency and Public Health Emergency (PHE) Set to End in May
On January 30, 2023, it was announced that both national emergencies for addressing COVID-19 will end on May 11, 2022, nearly three years after the United States imposed measures to curb the spread of the illness.
After repeatedly ensuring at least a 60-day notice of the end of the PHE, the current announcement meets that requirement, providing 101 days until the emergency officially ends. Some waivers and flexibilities granted during the COVD-19 PHE will end on May 11, 2023, with the PHE; others will extend 151 days after. In August 2022, CMS releasedCreating a Roadmap for the End of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency which provided CMS’ strategic plan to support the health care system and address the support both during and after the PHE.
