American Medical Association Releases 2022 CPT® Code Set
On September 7, the American Medical Association (AMA) released the 2022 Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) code set after approval from the CPT® Editorial Panel. There are 405 editorial changes to CPT® including 249 new codes, 93 revisions and 63 deleted codes. Nearly half of changes involve new technology services described in Category III codes and continued expansion of the Proprietary Laboratory Analyses (PLA) section. There are changes to CPT® in nearly every section, highlights include:
- 15 vaccine-specific codes to report immunizations and administrative services;
- 5 codes to report therapeutic remote monitoring as part of digital medicine innovations;
- Codes to report endovascular stent repair of coarctation of the aorta;
- Updated codes to report the diagnostic congenital heart catheterization;
- Revisions to the cardiac ablation codes.
