OEIS Provides Interventional Procedure Recommendations During COVID-19 Pandemic

The Outpatient Endovascular and Interventional Society (OEIS) announced to its members new procedural recommendations in determining what constitutes elective versus non-elective procedures  during the COVID-19 pandemic. There are 18 categories that are addressed in the recommendations, and each addresses associated procedures; potential risks of postponement; and specific indications/recommendations to postpone or proceed. Of interest are the following categories:

  • Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) stenting/surgical bypass
  • Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) repair
  • Carotid/Cerebral Artery Disease stenting/endarterectomy
  • Renal Artery Stenosis angioplasty/stenting
  • Dialysis Procedures (AV, fistula, graft access/angioplasty/stenting/thrombectomy)

The OEIS is waiting for clarification and official guidance from state authorities in Florida regarding permissible nonelective and urgent procedures as sited in the Florida Governor’s Executive Order of March 20, 2020. The society advises “each physician must make individual decisions regarding postponing/proceeding with procedures and what constitutes compliance with their state mandates.”
