FY 2024 ICD-10-CM Code Updates Released
The FY 2024 ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes have been released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and are available on the CMS 2024 ICD-10-CM Page. These codes are to be used for discharges and patient encounters occurring from October 1, 2023, through September 30, 2024. The update files include tabular and alphabetic index addenda, external cause of injuries index addenda, table of drugs and chemicals addenda and table of neoplasms addenda. The official coding reporting guidelines are not currently available, but will be forth coming.
The update summary includes a total of 74,044 codes, including the addition of 395 codes, 12 title revisions and 25 deletions. Of the 395 new codes, 123 of them are external cause codes to capture accidents and injuries. Of interest is expansion of the aortic aneurysm and dissection section (I71) of chapter 9, Diseases of the Circulatory System, to include additional anatomical sites based on the thoracoabdominal aorta with and without rupture (supraceliac and paravisceral).
