CDC Recognizes CLI and CLTI in ICD-10-CM
The Critical Limb Ischemia (CLI) Global Society coalition has received approval from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) to recognize “critical limb ischemia” (CLI) and “chronic limb-threatening ischemia” (CLTI) in the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM), effective October 1, 2020. In the Alphabetic Index, CLI and CLTI are now listed under “Arteriosclerosis”, code category I70 in the Tabular listing.
According to the Endovascular Today article, “The goal of this initiative is to support coding professionals, educators, compliance staff, and physicians to identify and accurately report CLI and CLTI in clinical documentation, electronic medical records, and medical billing to track and monitor patient treatments and outcomes in the future.”
